Make Your Mark Club Meet-ups - fantastic fun!

I have had a fab week and that’s because I got to meet some of the enterprise groups which are part of the Make Your Mark Club!

On Friday 10 July, the Make Your Mark Club team were at The Studio, in Birmingham hosting a Club Meet-up for some of our budding entrepreneurial students. Enterprise groups from around the Midlands came together to shout about the enterprise work they have been doing this year and wow, they’ve been busy! Students involved have been making and selling crafts, raising over £3,000 for Comic Relief, planning trips to New York, putting on themed days at schools and running activity days.

Just in case they hadn’t been busy enough Adam Duffy, Enterprising Young Brit Winner and founder of www.solecreator.co.uk came along to set them a real business challenge – groups had an hour to design their own trainer and then pitch it to the judges . The winning school, Lady Hawkins, came up with an idea for a trainer with a scented sole…grapefruit scented running shoes anyone!?

The day was fantastic and Adam Duffy was a real inspiration, an engineer turned fashion designer – reminded us all to follow our dreams!

So…two days back in the office and then off I went to the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York to another Make Your Mark Club meet-up to meet some of our northern enterprise groups and they were just as amazing as the ones we met in Birmingham. Their activities ranged from trading internationally to selling eggs from ‘happy’ chickens. Their business challenge was set by Vernon Kerswell from Extreme Fliers (look out for him on Dragons Den soon) and Tish Bolton from NRM. They had to design a toy to be sold in the museum shop and Newcastle College won with their idea for a cho-cho chocolate bar.

Look out for photos which will go up next week.

Both events were fantastic fun, the students I met were inspiring, the teachers I met were amazing and all in all I can’t wait until September to see what these enterprise groups get up to next year!
