What we are campaigning for

Make Your Mark is the national campaign to unlock the UK’s enterprise potential. Our aim is to drive economic prosperity and social cohesion by increasing the UK’s enterprise culture and entrepreneurial behaviour.

We see three major policy challenges that need addressing to create a more enterprising culture in the UK. The Make Your Mark campaign is working in different ways to address each of them:

Embedding enterprise education

  • Every young person should experience an enterprising education and the chances to develop enterprise skills and attitudes
  • More real-life enterprise opportunities should be available for pupils in schools, colleges and universities – such as business challenges and Make Your Mark clubs

Supporting enterprising people

  • We need to close the gap between the number of people thinking about starting their own enterprise and those who do. This requires an environment that supports the needs of all potential entrepreneurs through informal methods of support - such as networks and mentoring
  • Enterprise potential should be recognised and unlocked in groups that are currently underrepresented in entrepreneurship - including women, the over-50s and black and minority ethnic groups.

Creating enterprising places

  • Enterprise should be at the heart of economic development and regeneration activity. Key local organisations and champions should come together around enterprise to drive change in communities
  • Local, sub-regional and regional economic strategies should focus not just on starting businesses, but on creating an enterprising culture though addressing ambition, attitudes and mindsets.
