MYM trip to the seaside
July 2nd, 2009 by sarahOn Monday, six Make Your Markers braved the soaring temperatures and armed with our suitcases headed down on a packed train to the South West coast. Undeterred by the onslaught of Glastonbury folk at Castle Carey, we sat back admiring the rolling hills and anticipating a 99 with a flake on the beach at Paignton.
Well it wasn’t really a holiday we did have work to do. And that was to spread the word about Global Entrepreneurship Week and give our event organisers in the South West some tips for this year.
Thanks to South Devon College, we put on this Meet-up as part of a series of nine around the country. We heard from Lauren about high-impact events. Chris showed us what you can do during the week to give your event a theme or global twist. Then Rachel and Emma showed us how you can how to use local PR and digital to promote what you’re up to.
Serial entrepreneur Kirsten Hemingway from the Hemingway Corporation reminded us all of why we’re doing what we’re doing with her tale of setting up while bringing up three kids. And Geoff Hallett aka ‘George Dixon of Dock Green’ from Devon Education Business Partnership shared the story of his Global Entrepreneurship Week at Diggerland last year.
Among this stuff the lovely folk in the South West also learnt about Chris’s penchant for dogs in clothes, Kirsten doing business from a remote Shetland island, and Emma’s addiction to Twitter.
Known for being a particularly friendly bunch in the South West we chatted over a few sarnies and bellies full sweated our way back to London on a First Great Western train with faulty air-con.
