Miguel Doforo

Having spent many years as a performer, Miguel knew that he had the skills and drive to move into production, so he set up MD Productions.

Miguel DoforoWhat gave you the idea for MD Productions?
I had always been involved in performing arts, music, art, fashion.

Having spent many years as I performer I knew I had the strength and background to push people in that direction.

My passion had changed from performing myself to creating and putting other people into the spot light.

So I set about creating MD Productions as a place for all to feel welcome and comfortable with expressing themselves.

What were you doing at the time you had the idea?
I was working as a freelance choreographer and dancer. I was also teaching at different workshops.

What was the first thing you did to try and make the idea happen?
I first came up with the idea of putting my own show on, so I set about writing a script for a production called Music, I worked out the choreography and set about creating the costumes.

Once I was happy with the concept I arranged to audition a cast. From there it just expanded.

What obstacles did you encounter along the way?
Cost was a major issue as the company didn’t have ways of bringing in cash right away as it was all a trial. People not believing in your ideas. Finding our own location.

When did the idea start looking viable?
The idea was always viable in my head, ha! But once we had our first auditions it was great, the word just spread. I wanted to do something different than everyone else and people just seemed to love it.

Future plans for the idea?
Grow, grow, grow. I just want us to be the best we can be, have fun and entertain people.

So the plan for the next five years is to expand and open at other locations, sign a few of the acts to major labels and turn our two day college course into a full-time performing arts course.

Advice to anyone else who wants to make their idea happen?
It's not easy, but no one ever said it was going to be.

You get nothing for nothing and no one can sell your company as much as you can.

You’ve got to be hands on and its something that will take up your life 24 hours a day seven days a week. Don’t be put off by other people if you believe in your idea then go for it, the world's waiting.
