Sir Alan Sugar
Shared by Ed Make Your Mark team
Sir Alan Sugar's Grand Idea was to make money from electrical goods. Here are his five steps to success.
- Left school at 16 and made some money selling electrical items, which I realised I had a knack for.
- At 19 I set up Amstrad - Alan Michael Sugar Trading - and in 1980 floated on the stock market.
- Made a lot of money but never rested on my laurels - making some shrewd investments to provide for the future.
- Thought business TV programmes were pretty dull and wanted to promote entrepreneurship, so became the face of The Apprentice.
- Fired many and hired a select few - the search for the next Apprentice continues.
