Sarah Beeny

Sarah Beeny self-trained in the building industry, and set up her own property development company at the age of 24 with her brother and boyfriend.

As the girl we all need – armed with hands-on, no-nonsense advice for novice developers – Sarah’s prime-time Channel 4 show Property Ladder has become a huge success.

As well as co-hosting 2003’s Britain’s Best Homes for Channel 4, Sarah has also written two best-selling books both on the subject of developing property for profit to accompany the Property Ladder series. The second book in the series, Profit From Property, was rushed into a second reprint within a week of publication.

Sarah explains why she is supporting the Girls! Make Your Mark campaign: “I’m very driven when it comes to transforming my own ideas into business successes, and believe it’s really important to help other young women and girls to do the same. The Girls! Make Your Mark campaign is key to providing tomorrow’s business minds with strong, realistic role models who can show them by example what the route to success can look like. I look forward to seeing how it changes minds and brings it to the top of the business agenda.”

Sarah continues to present Property Ladder and writes a weekly column for the Mail On Sunday. She has also recently launched a dating site with a difference - mysinglefriend.com

Sarah’s top business tips:

  1. Try to always be charming and make friends – being chippy gets you nowhere even though it’s sometimes tempting.
  2. Never worry about not being taken seriously – if you know what you are talking about that’s what matters.
  3. Keep your accounts rigorously.
  4. Be big enough to admit it when you are wrong and walk away.
  5. Believe in your idea and make it happen.
