Frank PR
Founder and Managing Director, Frank PR
“Six months into my PR career as a 21 year old graduate trainee at Lynne Franks PR, I remember finding myself speaking on behalf of a client. I was live on National BBC News in the capacity as ‘Official Spokesperson for BT’. I came off air, still shaking, but completely ecstatic that I had done a good job and not fluffed it. My boss had put his faith in me to represent the agency and one of its most significant clients and his faith had paid off. The fact is that despite me not feeling ready to take on such an important task, he believed in me and believed that I was capable of doing it …and I proved him right!
Some years later, that same boss asked me if I wanted to set up a PR Agency with him. I remember thinking at the time that I wasn’t ready to be a ‘managing director’ (I was only 26 at the time) and that I wanted to get another few years experience under my belt. But then I realized that if he didn’t think I was up for it, he wouldn’t have asked. It’s now seven years later and I’ve never looked back. Frank PR now employs over 60 people, represents some of the most famous brands in the world and has been named Marketing Magazine’s “PR Agency of the Year” for the last two years.
Frank PR is famous for its creativity and its award winning campaigns. We know that great ideas can come from anywhere in the organisation, and it’s my job to encourage people at all levels of the company to come up with these ideas and make them happen. Often PR companies can get lost in hierarchies and office politics, and forget the fact that they are there to do a great job for their clients. To be enterprising, we have to pull people up, not push them down or let age and experience become a barrier, or an excuse. Innovation is top of our agenda. We need to encourage people to put their ideas forward and educate them to have conviction in their own ability. Most importantly, we have to give them the opportunity and make sure their ideas happen.
As I’m writing this, I’m watching one of our account executives on TV speaking to Eamon Holmes on behalf of our client, The Metro Ski and Snowboard Show. This time yesterday, she didn’t think she would be able to remember what to say - I hope that in ten years time she is running her own award winning PR Agency.”
