Simplifying business support

There are currently 3000 business support schemes in England, and the government wants to reduce this to no more than 100 by 2010. As part of its efforts to simplify business support, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulartory Reform (BERR) carried out a consultation to gather the views of businesses, as well as private, public and third-sector organisations who are involved in business support. The Make Your Mark campaign submitted a response to the BERR consultation on simplifying business support. In our response, we say that business support needs to reach out to budding young entrepreneurs, respond to their needs and unlock the potential of black and ethnic minority groups, women, and social entrepreneurs. We also say that business support must innovate, with a focus on mentoring and networks, building business ideas, and marketing and sales.
