Jenny Irish
Jenny works with Vital Regeneration, a charity working to reduce deprivation in inner city London through community and economic development. She leads their innovative FreqOUT! programme, a series of education projects based around technology and the arts.
Jenny’s role involves working with young people at the risk of social exclusion, presenting them with new opportunities for self-expression and new ways of learning. She describes it as the best job she has ever had. “It’s the first role I would say that I feel completely impassioned about and driven to get to work early for!” she says.
Jenny was set on her path to running the FreqOut! project by her experience as a youth worker in London. “This completely opened my eyes to the talents that lay dormant in so many young people who could not voice their strengths well and hid them from their peers,” she says.
As well as helping others to fulfill their potential, Jenny is recognised internationally as a ground-breaking artist. She has completed an arts residency in Beijing, and Jamie Oliver has a piece of her art work on his wall!
FreqOUT! received a 2008 Catalyst Award for pioneering initatives that use social technology for community benefit.
