Girls! Make Your Mark

Girls! Make Your Mark logoGirls! Make Your Mark is a campaign to inspire more young women to have ideas and make them happen.

Fewer women start their own business than men but this is not due to a lack of skills, instead it is often due to women being more considered and cautious than their male counterparts. Girls! Make your Mark aims to change attitudes to business and provides young women and girls with inspiring role models who can show them that business might be for them after all.

Girls! Make Your Mark is part of Spark - the women's enterprise ambassadors network. Find out more about Spark.

7 March 2008: Top female entrepreneurs urge girls to make their mark on International Women’s Day

Speaking ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Lynne Franks said: “I have spent my entire adult life campaigning for women’s enterprise having set up my own PR business at the age of twenty-one. The Girls! Make Your Mark campaign is the most ambitious and inspiring effort yet to get young women to seriously consider starting their own businesses. International Women’s Day is about celebrating the achievement of women and encouraging them to achieve their full potential. Having approachable and encouraging role models available to the next generation of entrepreneurs is crucial.”

Michelle Mone, founder of Ultimo lingerie which is the biggest designer lingerie brand in the UK, and an established Girls! Make Your Mark Ambassador, said: “I built my successful career on an incredibly simple concept: giving today's women what they want. Everything I do stems from my ethos of hard work and listening to my customer's needs. I left school at 15 with no qualifications due to the illness of a close family member and went on to work for Labatts Brewers in my home town. It’s easy to let life’s obstacles stand in the way of your success instead of seeing every experience as something to learn from.

“Girls! Make Your Mark is a brilliant concept that encourages more young women and girls to make  the most of the opportunities available to them but more than that to inspire the confidence to go out there and start their own businesses.”
